Mitton Public Sector Case Studies
Craven Centre, Skipton General Hospital
The Craven Centre houses facilities for the provision of local mental health services, providing support for individuals referred by GPs, and for their carers. The Centre is staffed by community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, psychiatrists and psychologists.
Working with main contractors Illingworth & Gregory, Mitton carried out modifications to the existing heating installation, including the provision of several new radiators. Similar modifications were also completed to the existing hot and cold water supplies, in accordance with a revised layout at the Centre.
Calderdale Primary Care Trust Loan Store and Wheelchair Unit
Upgrading facilities for reprocessing equipment at Calderdale PCT’s loan store and wheelchair unit, Mitton’s work included alterations and extensions to mechanical and electrical services to allow for expansion of decontamination facilities, working closely with Consulting Engineers RAH & Associates of Harrogate.
The project called for replacement of the gas meter and changes to the mains cold water services, including installation of a new water storage tank and booster sets. Two gas fired water heaters were provided, together with supply and installation of water softening plant.
New automatic controls and thermal insulation were installed, with Mitton also managing all electrical works including wiring and power distribution as well as all above and below ground building works.
Helping West Yorkshire Fire Service Keep Their Cool
Refurbishment of the West Yorkshire Fire Service lecture theatre at Birkenshaw by main contractors Torpoint necessitated a rethink of the ventilation system to ensure environmental compliance, comfort and safety for users of the facility.
Work involved the installation of a new direct expansion comfort cooling system, incorporating ‘Envirofresh’ ventilation/comfort cooling/heating/air handling facilities and additions and alterations to the LPHW heating system, including new controls and fire safety interface systems.
Mitton supplied, installed, tested and commissioned the upgraded system, complete with the incorporation of a new control panel interfacing with both fire alarm and fire detection systems.
Carlton Mills, Sowerby Bridge

Work on this multi-storey former textile mill has been carried out on behalf of the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale Social Services Directorate, completed over 4 phases working closely with main contractor Totty Building Services (ISG Totty) to maintain building occupancy throughout the progress of the project.
